Manufacturer date?

I have the 1D mk II and bought it used in like new condition from a friend and didn't get the user manual from him so I'm not sure where I can find the date the camera was manufactured. Does anyone know if I can find out through the serial number?

I don't believe you can. I'd ask about the firmware version its running (the lower it is the older it could be unless it's been updated) and also its shutter actuation's to get a better idea of how much its been used... but to my knowledge the L lenses are the only canon products carrying a date code anymore.

Alright thanks for the info. Is there anyway to tell how many shutter actuation's it has? I updated the firmware recently and now it actually reads my 16GB card as a 16GB!

I believe in the canon tools disc that comes with the camera there is a way to pull that data up. It should be on canons website somewhere.

I was going to say, on the bottom of the camera body, there should be a sticker with the No. on it, you could then call Canon and they can tell you the date of manufacture by it

and p.s...if you decide to get new gear, use the links on the site! (puleeeze )

Thanks! I actually ordered my new camera through best buy and chose in store pickup (new hampshire) and won't have to pay taxes on it. If it wasn't so damn expensive I would have gone through one of the links on top. When I get some stuff for the camera i'll buy through the links on top!

They usually give you the run around on this. I tried it for my 40d and they played dumb like "we don't know"
