Autophotog.com's Monthly Photo Contest #1 (Nov 09) - AutoPhotog : Photo Enthusiasts/Pros Forum

Howdy folks.

Welcome to our 1st official photo contest here on AutoPhotog.com. Basically this is how it is going to work. Myself or another Mod/Admin will choose a "theme" or "topic" and your photos will have to be within the topics boundaries. The contest will have a designated submission period and contestants will submit a photo during this time. After the submission period has ended we will make a poll and then we'll see who the winner is by popular vote (everyone votes and yes you can vote for yourself). The goal of these contests isn't to win, or a popularity contest or whatever. It's to get you out there shooting different things, trying different techniques and furthering your skills as a photographer. However, should you happen to win, your winning photo will be posted into the AutoPhotog Photo Contest Hall of Fame and bragging rights for a full month will be yours. You MUST have at least 10 posts & be a member for 3 days to join the contest and to vote (This is to keep a non-forum member from coming here and stealing your prize!!)

Sometimes there might be prizes involved, but that won't be EVERY time and we will let you know ...

a) Nikon 50mm F1.8 D lens
or
b) Canon 50mm F1.8 II lens
or
c) $100 Gift Card to one of the sponsors (Adorama, BHPhoto, Amazon)

Winner will specify which they would prefer, and I will get it to them quickly!

Contest #1 - SELF PORTRAIT

RULES: (FYI these will seldom change)

-Any interpretation of the theme that falls within Autophotog.com rules is welcome.
-You must be the person that took the photo. Previous photos are acceptable as long as you are the one that captured the image.
-One submission per contest.
-Images must be no larger than 800px in any direction. Links to larger images are allowed but you must have one that is under 800px for the poll.
-All contestants must host their own pictures (which includes hosting them on here).
-All images must have a title. <---- DON'T FORGET!!!
-While post processing in Photoshop is allowed, adding or removing parts of the picture is not. In the event a photo is suspected to be "photo-chopped," the contestant will be asked to provide the original picture for review.

*Any photo that does not meet the above requirements will be left out of the poll.*

THEME:

Self Portrait – Your entry in this contest should be of YOU! Like the rules say, any interpretation is acceptable so it can be a photo you in your car, your foot in the sand... I want this 1st one to be pretty general so get creative and show us what you've got.

SUBMISSION PEROID:

Entries must be submitted to The Contest Guru <<<THIS IS A MEMBER NAME (via PM) no later than SUNDAY NOV 22nd @ 11:59PM CST. Any late submissions will not be included in the poll.

**PM format**

-Subject: your photo title/contest name
-Body: your pic (800x800 max)

The poll will start on Monday, Nov 23rd and last 1 week.

I think the point is to see camera control, lighting control, and tasteful editing... I think it's great... Pushes you to take amazing photos instead of creating one on the computer.

That is correct... we wanna show off photo skills, not photoshopping skills.

might have missed it while i was reading, but these photos have to be taken during a specific time? or can i post a photo i took 3 years go? i know most contests do it so the pic has to be very recent, which makes sense and gives everyone a fair shot IMO.

just wondering,
