Awhile back I purchased the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 for my Nikon D300. I've been quite happy with it, but it just doesn't say "Nikon" on it.

So on Craigslist today, I saw a WTB post for a Nikon mount Sigma 70-200. I'm meeting the guy tomorrow so he can check it out. We've agreed to a price ahead of time, so I'm fairly certain the deal is done.

Now to start searching the interwebz and local shops for a Nikon 70-200 f2.8! I'll probably still buy used, trying to find a good deal on VRI. But I might go "full retard"* and get a brand new VRII......

*actually, "full retard" would be getting a D3s plus the 70-200....

Haha. I looked into it, but I can't quite make the budget work:
Sell D300 with MB-D10: $1,300
Sell Sigma: $580
Total: $1,880
Cash available for toys: $2,000
Grand Total $3,880.

D3S with 70-200: $7,200

Shortage: $3,320

The high ISO performance of the D3S would be SOOOOOOO nice to have though. Although I could go for a D700. I could probably make that work if I sold my D300 for $1,100 (minus the grip). Hmmmm....

Oh, and I bought the Sigma on 11/2, so I've had it for nearly 5 months.

Lens is sold, cold hard cash in hand. I've also found a used Nikkor 70-200 locally on CL, so I'm now working on the particulars of that deal. Hopefully have a "new" lens by the weekend!

ETA: Giggity!! 10:30 AM tomorrow I'm meeting up with a guy selling his Nikkor 70-200 VRI. Hoping to score it for about $1,500.....
