Critique my photo

Have this submitted in a contest on another forum right now. Just wondering peoples overall thoughts on the photo, I personally thought it was good (the contest theme is Reflection) and even though a lot of the other photos are really good, probably much better, I only have 2 votes and 1 was my own. Just wondering if I'm missing something here. (If you happen to be on this other forum, I am not looking for votes, just a critique and maybe why I might not be seeing the response I thought I would).

Thanks for looking.

It fits the theme, there is just not anything about it that makes it stand out or pop.

The crop is kind of weird with the partial kidneys showing and the water droplets are a bit distracting to the goal of the reflection.

Just my .02. Its not a bad shot, but its missing pop that is going to get it noticed by the average non photography person. I always try to dumb down my pictures a bit for contests to get the everyday on looker vote.

Thanks, I guess the problem with the crop is that its how I took the picture so its all I have.

As for the water I could see how thats a bit distracting, guess I figured it would be overlooked.

Any ideas on how to make it pop more with what I have to work with?

I find the water distracting too. non-symetrical. I almost think there is too much hood, with not alot to draw your attention downward.

My .02

The photo seems noisy to me in the reflection. Like, grainy. It lacks that 'mirror' reflection that I think it needs to up the ante on quality. Reflections are not always easy to get, especially in paint on a car.

You might try a lower angle, instead of looking down at the hood like a mirror. Try setting up at a 40-degree angle, from any position around the car, and wide enough of a shot to allow for some background imagery to come into play to set the reflection apart from the rest of the photo.

OK well the graininess is from it being taken on a 20d about 2 yrs ago at like 800ISO.

But I think CJ is right when She says its just too tight of a shot to work with.

i might have found something with higher contrast for the reflection. something with bright colors. makes the reflection pop more, catches your eye. if your scrolling down a set of pictures you need something that makes you stop scrolling and go back. brights colors do it in this case. or reflections of boobs....... :P j/k even those dont win.

LOL CJ.

going well, I have a few more votes but still getting my ass handed to me. I don't really mind though, there are some really awesome pics anyway, much better than mine.
