The Nightcap...

Trying out some different things with my SB-600 off-camera.

Welcome any comments/critiques/suggestions on lighting, composition, etc.

to my eye, the light is a bit harsh, perhaps a diffuser to even out the light, and perhaps warm it up a smidge

the ketel logo not being entirely on the shaker bothers me for composition, but I understand you cant exactly fix that ..(besides...gives the shaker some character...)

the glass isnt very focused as well, I keep getting drawn to the highlight on the edge of the martini glass which is oof

all comments made with the warmest regards

Appreciated! Yeah, the shaker bothers me as well but not much I can do about it. Maybe I can shoot the shaker again and just photoshop the logo it into this image. I'm not that good with PS, so that will probably look like hell...

One thing I noticed too is that the glass may seem out of focus, but it may also be the hazy liquid inside the glass giving it that impression. I'll probably edit out that bright spot on the rim also. Oddly, I never noticed it until you mentioned it, and now I can't stop looking at it!

I do need to get some light modifiers. I had an Omni-bounce on the flash, but it looks like I have may had it set up in a way that it provided too much direct light. I'm finding that working with flash is a huge learning curve!

i think it would greatly benefit from a constant diffused light source instead (or in addition to) the flash. it just feels too dark even though your primary stuff is lit well.

i dunno... just my $.02

Good suggestions about lighting so far. I'd also crop off much of the stuff below the bottom of the glass. Perhaps you're trying to show the "dark room, leather covered environment" but the image is so dark anyway that the extra canvas at the bottom is just empty space.

With all those olives, you'll need to watch your salt intake.

maybe if you put a mirror under all the objects, then it would have a cool reflection.
