Hood up? Hood down?

How about both...

i was playing around with a trick ive seen a few times and i think it turned out ok on the first, but the second one you can see the ghost hood up... i like this trick and wanted to possibly get some tips on how to do it better...

30 sec exposure
hood up for 7-9 sec and down for the rest of the time...
f/22 i believe...

from how Ive seen it done, you can take two separate shots, then overlay them in pshop and adjust the opacity on the hood/remove the part with the hood up...

that likely avoids any shaking of the car as well when closing the hood

true... i can do pretty much anything in photoshop... but i wanted to keep it as a single exposure. i dont know why but to me it just seems cooler to not photoshop it in later...

it might seem cool to not photoshop it in but you're going to get a much cleaner, better looking photo IMO.

the way everyone else does it is similar to what vudoo said

Yeah you gotta use a mask to prevent the ghost hood.

tip: limit use of this technique to cars whose engine bays look like they've been cleaned... -ahem-

And these are single exposures... Not photoshopped together

2 pics is the only way to do this properly, IMHO.

Layer the hood down pic over top of the hood up pic.

Select the general area you want showing thru, using a 10 or 20 pixel feather (or whatever you need to use).

Cut.

Merge.

Do your P/P if you so desire.

Save.

Enjoy.

1st time (and only time) doing one of these shots:
