Whats everyone use? Recommend? I was looking at bestbuy and noticed cs4 was $700!??!!??!?!? I was like holy sh_t wtf? I had no idea it was so expensive. Is there a way of getting it for like $300 or less?

Anyways, im looking to spend $300 or less for a good editing software, i was looking at this at bestbuy... Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 Ultimate - Windows
is it any good?? What would you guys recommend?

cant say ive tried that program, but if youre just looking to edit photos, I would start with adobe lightroom

its less expensive, and 90% of my photo alterations/raw adjustments are done with it.

I rarely make it to CS4 unless theres a specific change I want to make thats a bit more drastic.

you can try it from the adobe website free for 30 days as well, fully functional

LR is the best. I have had photoshop CS2 and now have CS4 but after discovering light room (for $65 on ebay) none of my stuff has been to photoshop since and I think my pics are looking better and better each time I use it.

If you are a student, Adobe has student discount programs where you can get CS4 for $300 I believe.

Honestly I do really like Light Room but if I am going to spend that much I would want to do everything. I would say get CS4 then you have it...

If you can buy all of CS4 (ie Ps, Dw, Il, Ae, Pp, etc, etc.) grab that otherwise its really up to you. You can process all of your photos very easy with Lightroom. I used to, but my graphic design side has fallen in love with photoshop and after discovering a few techniques I now spend my hours in photoshop. I would recommend photoshop if you plan to do alot of advanced techniques such as cloning out parts of an image (a rig for example).

Lightroom can clone, but its not what its for. If you don't need the more advanced Ps work, then Lightroom will get you in and out easy with most photo editing that you would want to do.

I just recently got Lightroom 2.5, and it's the first time I've ever used it. I've been using Photoshop in various versions since 5.0. I like Lightroom, but if i could have only one it would be PS.

I like the interface of LR and how it archives all your images, but really it's a lot like an advanced Bridge and Raw Edit combined.

I like having the full control of Photoshop, but I can see where many would prefer LR.

So like in some photos on here where there are dark clouds in the sky, that's Photoshop right? That's kind of what I want to do

example? (just for reference)

generally, LR will provide you with 90% of photo adjustments, and photoshop can complete that with the more advanced items

if you have a certain effect you are going for thats beyond color correction etc, photoshop would be your spot

the effect of getting rid of color in the clouds, or increasing their contrast/lightness/darkness can be achieved in lightroom with a simple brush tool that is available
